I believe Daniel’s actions in releasing the Pentagon Papers are just as important now, if not more so than they were at the time. His courage to stand up and put his career and lively hood at risk to expose a corrupted systems wrong doing is one of the strongest ways to show people with power that they can’t abuse their power because they don’t think the public will find out.
This story should be told over and over again to show the public that we should not trust everything our government tells us, and that we should think for ourselves. The story should also be told, to spark courage in people that have access to blatant government lies and cover ups so that when they have the opportunity to save lives, they will have the strength to stand up against the corrupted machine.
