What do you think? Do the Pentagon Papers matter now? We have launched an online dialog, called “The ‘Most Dangerous’ Wall“.

On Saturday, March 19, OAH President David A. Hollinger and President-Elect Alice Kessler-Harris will present the award in Houston, Texas, during the 104th annual meeting of the organization.

Judith Ehrlich was quick to leap at the idea of a documentary about WikiLeaks honcho Julian Assange. Too quick, it turned out. “I pitched it to HBO in June [2010] and no one had ever heard of him,” recalled the co-director (with Rick Goldsmith) of The Most Dangerous Man in America: Daniel Ellsberg and the Pentagon Papers, the Academy Award-nominated doc about another famous whistleblower. Then U.S. soldier Bradley Manning was busted and placed in solitary confinement for allegedly supplying classified information to WikiLeaks. “By summer, when I came back, lots of people knew about [Assange],” Ehrlich wryly observed. “In the meantime, lots of people got on the story.”

THE MOST DANGEROUS MAN IN AMERICA won its second major history award this month at the 2011 History Makers Awards at a gala event in New York City. A part of History Makers – the international summit for History, Current Affairs, Documentary and Non-Fiction producers and broadcasters – the History Makers Awards honor the very best in factual production for television and the digital space.

“The Awards gala is always a major highlight of the History Makers program,” said Bill Nemtin, Executive Producer of History Makers. “The projects nominated this year were of outstanding quality, and it is an honor to have the opportunity to recognize both winners and nominees at the summit.”

The American Historical Association awarded its John O’Connor Film Award to THE MOST DANGEROUS MAN IN AMERICA on January 7 in Boston.
